img_1157.jpgAnyone need a mortgage broker? One of Calgary’s best mortgage brokers wanted some hip new photos for her website and advertising. We headed down to Stephen Avenue Mall to get the job done ;) If you are in the market for a new mortgage give Rose a call.

These Boots Were Made For…

…puddle jumping…mud…clearly anything but walking. Just some fun shots of Georgia enjoying her new rainboots while the last of our snow from last week’s giant dump melts away.

Okay…so I love this one with the toes pointing in…how cute is that?

She decided to practise her ballet poses(she wants to be a ballerina when she grows up–or a mermaid), but I loved how it mimicked the wall behind her.

Oh–one with Jack(well his reflection anyways). He dresses himself(I feel the need to say that as he is wearing pants that are too big and a shirt that is too small, but–hey–I didn’t have to dress him).

Finally warming up again. Is spring here to stay? hmmm…I am hesitant to put away the parkas just yet, but I am begging Mother Nature–please be kind to us! Happy Tuesday…

Because in my last post about sweet little ‘B’, we never got a really good look at her, I thought I would share some today from her newborn session this weekend. Isn’t she the sweetest? Such a sweet little bird.

Friday’s Favorites and Shopper’s High

Posted on April 25, 2008  | 5 Comments

So, it’s time once again for Dana’s favorite blogs. Today’s blog comes with an ‘extremely cool’ warning because, well, it is extremely cool and I am not sure that I am quite that cool. Not only does his photography totally rock my socks–and I mean until they are full of rocks–but his blog is ubercool. Yes. You read right. I dare you not to get hooked ;) This week he just wrapped up a workshop with a couple of my other favorite bloggers, but(sorry guys) his blog is just better. I wish I could have been there, but if I book another workshop I think my husband’s head will explode! Ladies and gentlemen: Fred Egan

blogbanner0907.jpgAnd, now onto me…because well it is my blog! This week I had an extreme case of shopper’s high. Don’t play stupid with me…I know you all know what that is. You can pretend like you don’t if you are reading this with your spouse, but I know you know. So, what caused this fabulous trip to the ozone layer? No, not shoes(although I have been known to take that trip before)…not bedding(I heard on Oprah that is how most women get their fix)…this:

I love that you can get a little wide angle action(excuse this high iso, yucky playroom picture)

And…wonderful portraits in the same lens(excuse the kid that has to make a face EVERY TIME I TAKE HIS PICTURE)…

My shopper high friend did not answer her phone to share in my joy, so I may have to take resumes to fill that position. Instead, I had to settle with pumping up the Stevie Wonder. Later skaters…

Can’t Get Enough of These Pics!

Posted on April 23, 2008  | Leave a Comment

So, I thought I’d share a couple more of my favorites. I know that they are not my usual bright, cheery thing, but…I love the peaceful quality of them. I also know that I’ve been posting a lot of black and white lately. hmmm….can you say ‘itchin’ for spring?’ I need me some color! So, with that said, I have opened up my availability through to July and am including some weeknight sessions. I want to say that there isn’t going to be much room in August, so if you would like a summer session, best to book now. I also have some Saskatoon sessions available at the end of July for anyone who might be interested. AND, I want to say that I would love to capture a family enjoying the Stampede this year–any takers?

So, on with the pictures…I just love these two…

Well, for those friends of mine who knew it was coming, it happened. Last night, I had the honor of being present for the beautiful birth of a beautiful little girl. Labour was short and the result was super sweet ;) The best part of the whole thing was watching her sisters witness the birth. The eldest girl even cut the cord. At 5 and a half years old. All I could think was that most of us underestimate our children. These girls were amazing. Thank you to this family for inviting me. And, I would LOVE to do it again. So, if you’re expecting and think that this is for you, please contact me and we’ll see if we can work something out.

Spring? Uh, hello…are you out there?

Remember that post where I said that spring had arrived? Remember how cute the little girl looked in her diaper playing in the mud? Well, fast forward a week and a lot has changed! For starters, I think Calgary is FINALLY experiencing winter this year. All winter long, I kept thinking where is the snow? I guess it was just waiting for spring!!!! So, what better time to be stuck inside with a newborn? Well, the little girl in my ’spring post’ is now a big sister. Her wee, wee baby sister arrived last Tuesday weighing less than 6 pounds and measuring 18 inches(is that right? How can that be?!). Apparently, she sleeps all day and is awake all night, but not if I’m there. If I’m there, she’s awake. Regardless of the time of day. She was like the sleep nazi–no sleep fo you! So, no sleeping pictures. What I did get was a lot of this:

And, even more of this:

And, one pretty one of the two girls together…

If you make girls this cute, you should just keep making them :) Thanks guys…hope the sleep nazi was good to you last night!

Do you read German? Me neither, but that doesn’t stop me from loving today’s blog. Mostly, I know the photographer(we met in San Francisco) and find her inspiring. How does one be a mother, an author, and a photographer? I am putting her up today, because right now I stalk her blog just to see her header photo. That’s right. I think it is the happiest photo I have ever seen and it makes me feel good(and giggle a bit) everytime I see it. I wish I was present that day. How come nothing cool like that ever happens to me? And, I was afraid she would change it before I got around to putting her blog in my list….so, today, Conny Wenk. Conny, can I buy it? Check out her blog here:

I think if she gets a following from over here, she will write more in english ;) Happy Friday!

Popcorn and Legoland

Posted on April 17, 2008  | Leave a Comment

So, ever since my son was little, we have had this game where I say: “Guess what” and he says “What?” and I say “I love you”. Cheesy I know, but, like any good parent I succomb to the cheese for my kids. As he has gotten older, he has started to say in that 5 year old sarcastic drawl: “you love me” complete with rolling his eyes and shaking his head. Well, yesterday, I said “Guess what?” and he got all excited and said “What?” and I replied with my normal response. He then said, “Ahhhh, I thought you were going to say something good this time like we were getting popcorn or going to Legoland.” Interesting that he thinks there is a direct comparison in the level of happiness these two things can bring him.

I just wanted to add that when I reread my last post with my husband he made a remark about how dirty my little joke was. It was not until that point that I realized just exactly what I had said. Those people who truly know me are rolling on the floor laughing because they know how totally naive I can be. In college, I would say a little north fellas. Usually. Mind you, sometimes….

Mother Earth

img_8850.jpg

This is what happens when you ask a two year old to touch her mommy’s belly! Uh…a little south, dear(saying that makes me feel like I’m in college again). So, this was a difficult sneak peek to decide which images to share. It was a maternity shoot. She was pregnant(stay tuned for newborn pics real soon). There are belly shots, but I’m going to keep most of those to myself. Hmmm…why? Because, there were just too many and I had to narrow it down somehow! So, this is the only belly shot you get….I think it is totally cool though. Very Mother Earth!

img_8890text.jpg

The one thing I noticed about these two is the second he got close, she completely relaxed. I mean it was a visual thing–her shoulders dropped! It made me smile on the inside, so I’m sharing my favorite couple picture of the two of them. Aren’t they cute?

My favorite family pictures.

And, last but most definitely not least, my favorite little girl pictures…isn’t she adorable!

I decided to end it off with a little holga action as I haven’t done any in a while. I thought this picture made a cute Holga shot. So, that is it! I can’t wait to find out–boy or girl? Hmmm….
