Friday’s Favorites | Calgary Photographer

Posted on November 28, 2008  | 2 Comments

I have missed doing this for quite a few weeks…well, I’m back. Today a couple of favorites. I’ve been etsy shopping lately. It’s that time of year where homemade gifts make such wonderful presents, but I don’t have the time to make them, so ESTY!!! I used to have something just like this when I was small. The kids are each getting one in their stockings. Find it here at Sweet Darlin’ Ranch ummm…I didn’t take these images. I got them from her esty shop. Hope she doesn’t mind.

I’m actually going to include a blog here as well today! Yipee…I’m on a roll!!! I often get asked to shoot weddings which I promptly turn down(bar a few weak moments this past year that will not soon be repeated). I do this for a couple of reasons. Mostly, because I honestly believe that people cannot be good at everything and right now I know that I am not good at wedding photography. Maybe one day I’ll change my mind, but not today. So, I usually suggest my good friend, Brittney Staddon who does not have a website(Brit get on that will you?), but when she does I’ll put it up in my links. Recently though, I met a Calgary wedding photographer whose work I adore…and, he is pretty neato mosquito himself. So, I have also started referring him as well. So, today–his blog will get a nod. Wei Quek and Photobolic I think he loves flare almost as much as me :)

Soon…new images! Promise!

So, I’ve been absent from the blog. Something had to give. Seriously. I hate that it was this, but it was the easiest thing to let slide. November has been a bit of a gong show with filling orders and dealing with suppliers, etc. On top of it all–my husband has been extremely absent. Not only is it lonely without him, but man, it is nice to have someone around to help when things get busy.

And, then…there was the caramel apple incident. A rock solid, straight from the fridge caramel apple…taken while I was busy doing something else. Discovered when she walked up to me and said, ‘Look!’ with a giant grin–excited to be guaranteed a visit from the tooth fairy. That candy apple cost $750(plus a twoonie and a gift of candy apple flavored lip balm). Needless to say, next year Halloween will be candy apple free.

She’s still so beautiful.  Who needs all their teeth? Now, if only it didn’t affect our ability to understand a single thing she is saying…

December will be a better month for the blog–I promise.

PS–I’m on twitter now…well, I’m trying hard to be on twitter. Username ’shortandsweet’…for those that twitter.

Okay, okay…I know that this is a shameless plug. AND I know that I might not be the best blogger lately, BUT I am still hoping you will send your votes my way! Spread the word! Thanks…

Working on homework again…thought I’d share as I haven’t shared much lately. I am nearly through my fog of craziness…at least, that’s how I feel. Soon, I hope to come up for air with lots to share, but for now…homework.

*****AVAILABILITY NOTE: I am officially full for 2008. I have only two, maybe three spots left in January. I have decided not to post my availability for the new year yet…but if you email me, we’ll find a date that works. I absoutely cannot believe 2008 is almost over. It has been a wonder-full year for me. I am excited for 2009!!!

Christmas

Posted on November 6, 2008  | 2 Comments

Yesterday morning we awoke to this:

img_9515text.jpg

Georgia asked if it was Christmas. I said: no, but the world did get a wonderful gift yesterday from the American people. Hope.

And, we got a lot of eye candy ;) Beautiful early winter snow. Wet, heavy, gorgeous.

And, because I can never resist a cool sign…I saw this one while I was standing in a random field.

I feel like I haven’t been giving my blog the love it deserves, but…well…life has been crazy. The tooth fairy did come for a visit, but for Georgia and not Jack. Georgia who lost a tooth in a caramel apple. Yuck. Jack is the world’s biggest wimp and his tooth continues to just hang by a tiny thread to his gum. And, Bob is up north working. I promise to get back to blogging soon…I just wanted to share with you the beauty of winter. I can almost feel the snowboard boots sliding on now ;)

Stop Motion–First Attempt

Posted on November 3, 2008  | 2 Comments

Okay, I’ve removed this version and will post a better version…promise…

So, I’ve been playing around with stop motion in an attempt to think outside my box a bit. It’s not perfect, but I’ve been learning a lot…so, I thought I’d share it. It’s little snippets of all of our halloween events which include a house party, a school carnival, and, of course, trick or treating. Enjoy.

eta: it will work better the second time…sorry it’s so glitchy…it was made on a PC–ha, ha, ha…

MOST IMPORTANT TO NOTE: inspired by my lovely friends, Alicia Price and John Micheal Cooper of Alt F

Halloween Apples

Okay, so I hit publish before I was done–ha, ha…so now there are going to be two posts!! This is the first one. Here are my kids on Halloween. Georgia picked the costume strictly for the shoes(who can blame her, I mean–they are pretty nice shoes!!!). Jack just wanted to carry a lightsabre.
