I’ve been playing with the video feature on my new camera. I used to love to scrapbook and have lost that love a little bit…not because I don’t love the outcome, but I just don’t have the time needed to create what I want. Soooooo…I think that these little video montages might be the perfect ’scrapbook’ project for me. I’m still learning…my camera, the whole resizing the video for web, etc…so forgive me, but I wanted to share. Have a nice weekend everyone!!!

PS–I know that it has mislabelled it “halloween stop motion” it is clearly not that…bwahahaha…

PPS–I can’t believe that I forgot to mention that the fabulous song is by Alexi Murdoch.

That’s the number of items I will be purchasing for the food bank! Thanks to everyone who commented, all the emails, and the kind words on message boards. Last week was quite the week and 54 new items will find their way to the food bank.

I wanted to share a few images from our weekend away. We had an awesome time just relaxing in the outdoor pool and skiing on the bunny slope with our kids. Spring is almost here–I know it’s hard to believe it with all the snow that fell, but man–it’s spring snow. Heavy and wet…perfect snowball weather!!!

A quick note to say that if you would like to receive my newsletter this week, you still have a couple of days to get on my mailing list…just email me at: dana@shortandsweetphotography.ca and I’ll gladly put you on the list! Happy Monday everyone!

Hot Cocoa and Hotels | Calgary Kid Photographer

Georgia is a true princess. When she learns that we are going to a hotel, she gets all excited. Is there a pool? Will we have room service(a girl after my own heart)? Do they have the breakfast buffet? I like the eggs. And the pancakes. Then…she starts telling everyone she walks by that we are going to a hotel. Where? What for? They will ask. She looks at them like they are crazy. Who cares??? Did you not hear me? We are going to a hotel.

This bunch of images is from our last stint in a hotel. The Delta in Kananaskis…where you can ski, toboggan, skate and sit by the fire. And, there are hot chocolate stations throughout the property. One can imagine that, for a child, those stations are the preferred destinations. And, for Georgia, it comes second to the breakfast buffet…we are off for another ski weekend. Cross your fingers that Georgia will actually ski this time ;)

***Comments for Cans goes until Monday, so I thought I would give you something to comment about–what is your favorite family friendly hotel? why? thanks for playing!!!

Hi all! I forgot to mention a couple of things in my last post–first, I’ll count all comments until next Monday morning in my comments for cans–so comment away!!! Second, I had to change my actual blog address in the transfer of everything, so you will have to update your google readers or bloglines. Also, I am sending my very first awesome newsletter real soon, so if you are interested in being included on the list, leave a comment and I will add you ;) Soon, I’ll make it easier to subscribe, but right now it’s one step at a time!

So…another cover of Birthing magazine! And, not that I play favorites, but I love this family lots so I was thrilled that their images were chosen. Images, you say? Well, pick up a copy and peek inside as there are two more images of them hiding in there.

Okay…so when I show up at a session and the child does this unprovoked by me or his parents, then I know I like this child. It’s that easy. I love that his tongue is orange from his cheezy bribe(so are the tips of his fingers if you look closely).

It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to photograph bellies for spring babies. Especially, when you step outside and you can hardly catch your breath for the cold. But, it is. We had hoped to head outside for part of this session…and, well, we did. For about 3 minutes. That was all we could take before the exposed body parts started to lose their normal feeling. Spring you fickle woman…please come back to us!!!

And a couple of favorite belly shots.

And, the best shots from heading outdoors came from the little devil ;)   Thanks for hanging out with me. This was such an intimate session. This family was so comfortable with themselves and who they are. I love that. I can’t wait to go back and welcome their new little one. In the spring. When there isn’t so much snow and blowing wind. Maybe even sunshine and grass. Guess we’ll see.

I just wanted to say that changes they are a coming…hopefully, by the end of the week, I’ll have my new site up. I’m super excited to unveil it. AND, when I do, I’ll share a bunch of new stuff!!! I’ve been a busy little photographer this winter!!!

Birth Images | Calgary Photographer

Posted on March 5, 2009  | 16 Comments

Birth Photography is something I am extremely passionate about. I think that, in a person’s life, you will never have a day that impacts you more than the day you give birth. To me it is a wonder that more people do not choose to document this lifechanging day in their life. I have been fortunate to have been invited into a couple of births. This one was unique as it was the birth of twins. It is also unique in that one of the twins(the second one) was breech. Both twins were delivered vaginally. The slideshow is below. If you choose to witness the miracle that this family let me experience with them then please click on the little tv. I want to give a shout out to my friend(you know who you are) for suggesting the song. I find it extremely difficult to find a song that suits without being cheesy. This song is by the wonderful Landon Pigg. For those who aren’t interested in the slideshow, I have posted some of my favorite images from the day below.

**************DISCLAIMER************SOME OF THE IMAGES IN THE SLIDESHOW MIGHT BE A LITTLE TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR SOME PEOPLE. I TRUST YOUR ABILITY TO USE YOUR BEST JUDGEMENT. THANK YOU**********************

And, of course, I love me a little ‘birth flare’…

I have had some photographers ask me some specific questions about how I handle shooting births. Here’s the scoop. I have a Canon 5D Mark II which handles high ISO’s extremely well. I do not use flash or lighting of any sort. In fact, I think that would be IMPOSSIBLE…as it would distract the mother and the medical workers from doing their very important job. And, I try to stay out of the way. We do have a conversation about how much information they want to see in the images. In this family’s case, it was a lot(she’s my friend who I can tell you is VERY curious). The slideshow represents about 1/4 of the images they actually receive. I narrowed it down solely for the purpose of my blog. Hope this helps anyone who needs it.
