Birth Photography is something I am extremely passionate about. I think that, in a person’s life, you will never have a day that impacts you more than the day you give birth. To me it is a wonder that more people do not choose to document this lifechanging day in their life. I have been fortunate to have been invited into a couple of births. This one was unique as it was the birth of twins. It is also unique in that one of the twins(the second one) was breech. Both twins were delivered vaginally. The slideshow is below. If you choose to witness the miracle that this family let me experience with them then please click on the little tv. I want to give a shout out to my friend(you know who you are) for suggesting the song. I find it extremely difficult to find a song that suits without being cheesy. This song is by the wonderful Landon Pigg. For those who aren’t interested in the slideshow, I have posted some of my favorite images from the day below.

I love that there are two of everything
I think these two images(above and below) really show how the day went…

And, of course, I love me a little ‘birth flare’…
I have had some photographers ask me some specific questions about how I handle shooting births. Here’s the scoop. I have a Canon 5D Mark II which handles high ISO’s extremely well. I do not use flash or lighting of any sort. In fact, I think that would be IMPOSSIBLE…as it would distract the mother and the medical workers from doing their very important job. And, I try to stay out of the way. We do have a conversation about how much information they want to see in the images. In this family’s case, it was a lot(she’s my friend who I can tell you is VERY curious). The slideshow represents about 1/4 of the images they actually receive. I narrowed it down solely for the purpose of my blog. Hope this helps anyone who needs it.

Dana, those images are phenominal. I was completely engrossed with watching it, and was disappointed when the slideshow was finished! Loved the “perfect timing” of every moment you captured. Very, very well done.
Beautifully done, Dana. You captured the raw emotion of this birth….what a treasure. I, too, felt like I was right their pushing with her. I love the theme of the clock through the slideshow, it totally keeps the viewer aware of how LONG the process was. Awesome…I really can’t say enough about it!
wow…thanks for all the positive comments everyone!
Tears streaming down my face…beautiful images and not sure how you did it as I know I would have had a hard time concentrating on the camera!! Thank you to your friend for allowing you to share…beautiful and moving – perfection!
I have never given birth, but was there for the birth of our son….and this slideshow just brought it all back to me…how beautiful!! I remember looking at the clock all the time..just like the slides…You captured the birth so amazingly well…bravo!

wow… that is amazing. EVERY one should do this. Makes me wish I did.
I loved every image. thanks for sharing.
Wow, that was a wonderful story you captured. I so wished I had done pictures like this with my children. I think you captured it so well. I was so surprised when the second baby popped out. I really loved the one image of the little boy by himself in the basinet with his toque on it was a very powerful image. I have never stopped in at your site before and got your web address from a mutual friend. You have a fantastic site.
Okay, so at first, I was like, WTF, people take pictures of BIRTH (I have an eight month old, lol)????? But WOW. Your slideshow tells the most incredible and emotional story. The photos are beautiful. What an incredible treasure for that family, and I’m so thankful they were amenable to sharing it. GORGEOUS.
I had no idea his type of photography existed – it is stunningly beautiful!! I wish I had been pointed to your website before my daughter was born. The images my husband took are a little less artistic
Just amazing!!
