Why does it take 2-3 weeks to get my gallery up?

The actual session is only part of the equation. Afterwards, I spend hours sorting the images and bringing them to their full potential in photoshop.  A good source for people looking for a custom photographer can be found here.

For Photographers:

What is in your camera bag?

Lots! Two cameras for starters. My primary camera body is a Canon 5D Mark II and my back up is a Canon 30D. Several lenses which changes all the time as I enjoy renting new ones(and buying them as well). Right now, I primarily shoot with the Canon 24-70 2.8L series lens. From time to time, I pull out my trusty, dusty 50mm 1.4(an excellent lens for beginner photographers). I have a couple of lenses that can only be used on the 30D. The number one thing I look for when choosing a lens is speed which helps me in low light situations. Don’t get me started on camera accessories. The list is neverending

Do you use photoshop actions to edit your images?

Yes and no. I do have many of my own actions that I use strictly for workflow purposes. I have my own color action and my own black and white actions. From time to time, I do use actions I have purchased. Primarily, I use the Totally Rad Action set. I know that it is easy for beginner photographers to get caught up in the idea that you can buy an action and it will solve all your editing issues, but there is nothing that can replace good exposure and a decent understanding of photoshop. How did you learn?

Patience. Obsession. Practice. Lots of practice. I read ‘Understanding Exposure’ by Bryan Petersen. And, I joined a couple of online message boards and groups. A wise photographer once told me that it isn’t how long you’ve been shooting, but how many frames you’ve shot. The best thing about photography is that there is a never ending stream of things you can learn.

Would you teach me?

As you can probably understand, my time is limited. I have two kids and a husband who occassionally like to spend time with me I occassionally agree to mentor beginner photographers, but it has to be a proper fit. Please contact me for details.

Do you shoot weddings?

I take on a handful of events each year. I am very particular wanting to make sure that we are the right fit for such a special occassion. My full day coverage begins at $3500 and includes digital files. If you are interested in having me capture your wedding or other special event, please contact me.
