Availability and Travel Schedule

Posted on September 2, 2009  | 1 Comment

Just a quick note to say that I am filling up quickly for the fall. I have only a handful of sessions left with guaranteed Christmas delivery. I am making one more trip to Edmonton over Thanksgiving. I have room for one more session there on the Monday morning if anyone is interested. Act fast!!! It looks like I am also headed to New York City for a couple of sessions in November. If anyone there is interested in a session–or a photographer there is interested in a mentoring session–contact me to work out details.

That will be the end of my travelling for the year. Next year, I am definitely going to Florida(in January) and would be open to a session or two there. As well, there is an actual list of people interested in having me come back to Toronto!! I’m thinking maybe May again. If you are interested in getting on the list, let me know! And, as always, I toy with the idea of Vancouver, but never seem to make it out that way. Maybe next year is the year for that! I am always open to other locations–just say the word!!!

I have many sessions to blog. It’s a little crazy actually. I promise to start blogging these sessions tomorrow so check back!!!

Fall Sessions | Calgary Family Photographer

Posted on July 1, 2009  | 1 Comment

Soooo…I know it might seem early to book your fall session with me BUT there are some things that need to be done sooner rather than later. For example, my August schedule is nearly booked. I have room for one or two more sessions and that is it. There is still some room in July, but August is nearly full.

Fall in Calgary happens in September. Well, that is, if you want leaves on the trees and beautiful fall light. September. Okay, early October is okay as well…What I have done this year is pick 4 Calgary parks and put them on 4 different weekends. Bowness, Fish Creek, Edworthy, and a special little late fall spot. I will be booking both full sessions and Short & Sweet sessions at those spots. There will be limited spaces available. The sessions will be scheduled for the Saturdays, but IF IT RAINS they will happen on the Sunday. And, there will be all sorts of specials for people who secure these spots…so, act fast…they will be gone before you know it.

Short and Sweet Sessions

Session fee: $100 — for that you get a 20 minute session and one 8×10 print. Approximately two to three weeks after your session, you will get an online gallery with a guaranteed 7 images. The complete set of digital files will be available for $750(usually the price of 5 files). Buy prints, canvases, and christmas cards–it is the best deal of the year! If you are pregnant and around 32 weeks–this is the perfect opportunity to have an outdoor maternity session!

Signature Session Special Offers

For all the clients who secure a full session with me on one of those weekends, buy the digital files($1700) and get an 11×13 coffee table book for 50% off($250). It is the perfect compliment to your digital files. But, heck, if a coffee table book isn’t your thing–I’ll give you 10% off the purchase of any canvas or 9×9 album.

So, check my availability calendar to see where I am on what days and get in early on the best days of the year!!! Stay tuned for a wedding blog post tomorrow!!! I’ve been shooting sooooo much lately that I have tonnes to share.

ALSO, people are always asking me what to wear… I have to say that I think that it is important to layer and accessorize and wear AWESOME shoes. If you truly need ideas, check out the catalogs at Anthropologie and JCrew(for adults)…Crewcuts(for kids). The outfits they put together(and the photography in the catalogs) are always a fave of mine. I also love 77Kids(American Eagle’s kids line) and Zara Kids. Plus, I think the Gap is a good stand by. You can never go wrong with Chuck Taylor’s :) OR flip flops in the summer…and Uggs on colder days.

I’m just saying this as Anthropologie’s latest catalog is an EYE CANDY BUFFET…check it here: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/shopbycatalog.jsp?catname=Jun09

Now…back to your regular scheduled programming :) Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Today, I’m working on some super duper old images at the request of my mom. Catching up before my busy season begins.  I just wanted to announce a couple of quick things. May is nearly full. Sometimes my online availability can look deceiving as I put up all the days I’m willing to do sessions, but I don’t take sessions on all those days. I cap my monthly sessions at around 6. Currently, I have 5 6 in May already(edited to change to 6!! Book quickly before I close the month!!!). NOW that said, I am going to be in Toronto on the May long weekend and would be willing to take one more session while I’m there. AND, the beginning of May is pretty light in sessions, so I would fit one in there as well. Sooooo, if you were going to book with me in May, you will probably want to do it sooner rather than later.

June is a wonderful time for sessions here–lilacs, crabapple trees and all other beautiful prairie trees should be nicely in bloom. If you would like a spring session, book soon! I have some Edmonton availability in June on the 13th and the 14th if anyone is interested. AND, I am looking for a maternity in June willing to be on call to do some fun stuff with me. This maternity couple has to be around 32-34 weeks in June. For your trouble, I’ll reward you nicely! Email me for details!!

Just a taking care of business post. Where are my Elvis sunglasses now???

Hi all! I forgot to mention a couple of things in my last post–first, I’ll count all comments until next Monday morning in my comments for cans–so comment away!!! Second, I had to change my actual blog address in the transfer of everything, so you will have to update your google readers or bloglines. Also, I am sending my very first awesome newsletter real soon, so if you are interested in being included on the list, leave a comment and I will add you ;) Soon, I’ll make it easier to subscribe, but right now it’s one step at a time!

So…another cover of Birthing magazine! And, not that I play favorites, but I love this family lots so I was thrilled that their images were chosen. Images, you say? Well, pick up a copy and peek inside as there are two more images of them hiding in there.

Birth Images | Calgary Photographer

Birth Photography is something I am extremely passionate about. I think that, in a person’s life, you will never have a day that impacts you more than the day you give birth. To me it is a wonder that more people do not choose to document this lifechanging day in their life. I have been fortunate to have been invited into a couple of births. This one was unique as it was the birth of twins. It is also unique in that one of the twins(the second one) was breech. Both twins were delivered vaginally. The slideshow is below. If you choose to witness the miracle that this family let me experience with them then please click on the little tv. I want to give a shout out to my friend(you know who you are) for suggesting the song. I find it extremely difficult to find a song that suits without being cheesy. This song is by the wonderful Landon Pigg. For those who aren’t interested in the slideshow, I have posted some of my favorite images from the day below.

**************DISCLAIMER************SOME OF THE IMAGES IN THE SLIDESHOW MIGHT BE A LITTLE TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR SOME PEOPLE. I TRUST YOUR ABILITY TO USE YOUR BEST JUDGEMENT. THANK YOU**********************

And, of course, I love me a little ‘birth flare’…

I have had some photographers ask me some specific questions about how I handle shooting births. Here’s the scoop. I have a Canon 5D Mark II which handles high ISO’s extremely well. I do not use flash or lighting of any sort. In fact, I think that would be IMPOSSIBLE…as it would distract the mother and the medical workers from doing their very important job. And, I try to stay out of the way. We do have a conversation about how much information they want to see in the images. In this family’s case, it was a lot(she’s my friend who I can tell you is VERY curious). The slideshow represents about 1/4 of the images they actually receive. I narrowed it down solely for the purpose of my blog. Hope this helps anyone who needs it.

February Special!! | Calgary Family Photography

Hello! If the title of this email didn’t get your attention, then this picture should do the trick!!! here are my kidlets…practicing up for Valentine’s day. Really, I’m just here to announce some changes. I have some new products that I will be unveiling at the end of the month. Why? Because they are awesome that’s why. But, also, I had to start shopping around a bit due to the ~ahem~ change in the Canadian dollar. So, my prices are going to change a bit. Out with the old, in with the fabulous. :) Here’s the thing…I was thinking about all of you out there in blogland who read my blog faithfully and wondering how I could reward such good behaviour. Soooooo, I decided to give you notice. For the next two weeks, until Valentine’s Day(which is February 14th–just in case you needed reminding), you can purchase your session for 2009 at 2008 prices. So, your session fee will be $200(it is going up on the 15th).  AND, you reserve yourself the right to purchase my old collections and products. Of course, the new stuff is going to be pretty great so it might be hard to resist(just fair warning).

Have a good week everyone!!!!

Mommy Wear Daily | Calgary Family Photographer

This here is one of the most stylish families in all of Calgary!!! Yes, it’s the one, the only, Mommy Wear Daily and her lovely family.  We spent the afternoon together this past weekend and had some crazy fun!
img_7215.jpg

Check out her jewels… :) A girl has gotta have jewels!!!

quinn.jpg

Check out his blue eyes!!! So beautiful. And, we raided mom’s closet….

img_7328.jpgimg_7344.jpg

How come girls put on heels and instantly work it out like a supermodel and boys put on heels and all of a sudden they’re some sort of superhero? Because Spiderman would wear shoes like that when he’s scaling buildings chasing down criminals…

img_7371bwpan.jpg

Short and stylish…fabulous shoes or no shoes at all. :) Then we headed outside for a little snow fun.

img_7435bw.jpg

I love this image of mom and dad making out in the snow with the kids a blur in the background. The best thing is how they’re kissing, but you can see them grinning. I love that.

So…have you signed up for Mommy Wear’s newsletter??? Seriously, you should. It’s like having all the fashion tips from your favorite fashion mags in one handy little place. After seeing her beautiful skin this weekend(she glowed, she really did), I ran out and bought her suggested face serum…Firmology by Benefit. Seriously, she has the best style tips. And, she’s funny in a kind of edgy way which is the best way to be if you are going to be funny. Right? So, sign up for her newsletter…now.
