I had the pleasure of flying to BC with my friend(and AMAZING photographer), Andrea Hanki of Pink Sugar Photography, to witness the union between these two lovely people. It was a beautiful day…

I am a fan of pink peonies. True story. I am a bigger fan of the giant pink floral painting that hung during the ceremony. It was custom made by one of the bridesmaid’s mothers. FABULOUS!

Ummmm…hello stunning bride

Thanks Andrea!!! It was a wonderful weekend

I just got the most lovely email from this girl telling me how worried she was before her family’s photo session. She actually thought it might be a stressful situation
hahahahaha! She was a bit surprised I think to see how much fun a photo session can be
Her boyfriend was a wee bit nervous about having his picture taken, so I wanted to show him(and her) that there was nothing to worry about! And, oh–this family was about as nice a crew as I have ever encountered. What a wonderful way to start the spring!
~happy weekend everyone!

Phew, that title is a mouthful!! Why don’t I start at the beginning? A Canmore wedding shot with my lovely friend, Rachel Boekel (whose own wedding I assisted at awhile back–coincidentally, the last time I had a contest as well!!). The day before this wedding, nature unleashed winter on us. In a major way. But, everyone in this bridal party stayed positive and it was a beautiful and unique day–just like this couple!!
I had the pleasure of hanging with the men and they were FANTASTIC!!! I learned all about being a biathalon and giggled with the groom’s mom about how slow and meticulous these boys were about getting dressed. I felt so welcome.

Then, before the ceremony, the bride and the groom met for their formal portraits. This is something I highly recommend as then they were able to relax and just enjoy the rest of their day with their guests. Her cute little shoes were traded in for a pair of Uggs and a white fur shawl, but the groom toughed it out in his kilt. What a trooper
You’ll notice he kept warming his nose, but I think it was just an excuse to get as close as possible to his beautiful bride.

I love emotional grooms. Even better…emotional grooms with emotional groomsmen. This group was soooo sweet. The ceremony was so full of good ol’ family love. I am a sucker for a close family wedding
The details at the reception were outstanding. It is great to have two shooters at your wedding because then you are able to get shots that are otherwise missed. Their little cake in amongst the sea of cupcakes was so beautiful. One of my favorite cakes I saw this year.

Soooooo…that was the longest post in FOREVER!!! But, how do you sum up an entire day in a brief little blog post??? It is soooo difficult!! To that end, I am feeling like having some fun on my blog so…it’s COMMENTS FOR CANS time!! Every comment will be matched with a food item for the foodbank. Comment on any post between now and midnight my time on Friday night and I will match each comment with a food item. Since I know my blog readers are fun and generous, I am feeling like being fun and generous as well–one lucky commenter will win a $10 itunes gift card. I LOVE ITUNES!!! I am especially loving their ‘genius’ feature right now and using their genius playlist has introduced me to music I forgot I had(yes, I have a problem). Can’t think of something to say??? Tell me your favorite song right now–I am always looking for new music!!! Okay, get to it!!! Comment away!!!

Today, September 1st, is the anniversary of two very important things. Firstly, and always most importantly, my wedding. 8 years ago, on the banks of the Bow River in Kananaskis, during a downpour that quenched a drought ridden earth, Bob and I exchanged our vows. Then, a few years later(6 to be exact), I officially started Short and Sweet Photography. A decision that has changed our lives so much it is almost unfathomable…especially given the fact that it was only two years ago. And, now today will also mark the anniversary of when I officially started taking wedding clients. To celebrate, I’d like to have a contest. I’d like to give away an engagement session. You have one week to send me your love stories. One week. I want to be wowed by tales of your love. The winner will then get a free engagement session with me(I will waive my creative fee) and I will gift you a beautiful coffee table book from your session that is designed to be your guest book!! How awesome is that???!!! Sooooo…tell everyone you know to send me their love stories!!! I can’t wait to hear them all!!!
AND, because I want you to see what you get when I am your wedding photographer, I am posting a slideshow of my experience on the day of Rachel and Georde’s wedding. A wedding that I loved down to the orange mini and the striped socks. Thanks to Brittany for letting me tag along!! Enjoy the slideshow(music by David Myles) and happy anniversaries to me
PS–I wanted to mention that Rachel’s fabulous dress(and photographers KNOW fabulous dresses) was designed by Mireille Stettler. Ladies…hire her now!! I can’t say enough about how gorgeous it was!!!

Another wedding shot with my friend, Brit on what was THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE SUMMER. But, this crew kept their cool and everyone had an awesome time! Who wouldn’t with a five year old breakdancer. Seriously…they should hire that kid out

Soooooo…a wedding? hmmm…those of you who follow me are wondering what is going on. Dana shot a wedding? Well, I’ve been considering taking on a limited number of weddings each year, but before I can make that decision or not, I have to see if my style of shooting and my personality suit them. So, the wonderful Brittany Staddon has agreed to let me tag along and second shoot at some of her weddings this year. This was the first…a wonderful couple named Neal and Laura who were married in Canmore with the mountains as a backdrop and a harp joined by the birds and the bees as the symphony. It was a beautiful ceremony. I have never in my life seen a groom beam so widely as he walked down the aisle. Such a wonderful couple.
I was assigned to follow the groom and his band of men as they got ready. They were ready far before the bride and her lovely ladies, so what to do? What to do? Oh yes, my style really suits going to the Rose and Crown for a drink
It does. Funny that the barmaids working there all recognized them. Hmmmm…Canmore is really a special place for them, isn’t it???

Without further ado…here is a sampling of my images from the day.
