Popcorn…

I read somewhere once that popcorn was supposed to help relax people…hmmm…not with this family:)This family was exactly the kind of family I hope my family grows up to be…the right mix of loving and teasing with a whole lot of laughter mixed in!

What do you think–color or BW? With these more ‘documentary’ type images, I am always curious which way to go…

Rain, Fog, Attack Birds and Horseback Riding in Icleand

I’m not sure that there are words to go with this post. So, I’ll say this…we were glad on these cold and rainy days to have the Adventure In A Box from The Happy Family Movement.  It is a box filled with little experiences for your family while they are on a road trip. Jack and Georgia kept asking for ‘one of Josh’s experiences’ (Josh Solar is one of the founders and a friend). I have to say that it was more than I thought it would be…in a good way. I had anticipated little car activities like coloring books and the such–only maybe more creative than that because that is how uncreative I am when it comes to finding things to do on roadtrips. Instead, it was filled with silly little ideas that forced us to stop and just enjoy ourselves as a family…like when Bob took a wee cat nap and we tried on moustaches(including putting one on him while he slept) and took pictures. Sometimes when you are on a road trip–even in a foreign land where there is much to see–you can forget why you are there. It is not about the seeing it is about the BEING…being together. Being happy. Just being.

The foggy rainy places are near Reyoarfjordur which we have fondly named ‘the place we still cannot pronounce’. The hostel there was THE BEST. It was two houses run by the most lovely couple ever. They had a cute little cafe where they served breakfast(and other meals as well if you so felt like). They were originally from Belgium and moved here because they wanted to be at ‘the end of the world’ which it pretty much is;)We also swam at one of the hot pools in a neighbouring town(as suggested by the hosts)…we were sooooo spoiled by the pools in Iceland. Even the pools with the waterslides were warm like hot tubs. It is the perfect solution to a cold and wet day.

And, then there was Husey…the hostel with the most character. It is literally in the middle of nowhere and as we approached the gate, the horses ran along side our car. It was like a movie. Unbelievable.  And, you can hire the horses…which we did. It remains one of the kids favorite days of the entire trip. For me, it is hard to forget being attacked by the Great Brown Skuas. I am more than a bit bird phobic. Bob giggled the whole time we were being attacked. What a fabulous experience!!! How many of your friends can claim to be attacked by birds? How awesome is that? These were his thoughts. Seriously. It is an experience that I could have done without;)But, it does make for a funny story…not as funny as the day the Arctic Terns attacked us, but that is another story;)
