Three Sisters

Okay…I know there aren’t 3 sisters in here, but there are the ‘Three Sisters’ in Canmore:)I love going out to the mountains to shoot families surrounded by the natural beauty that we are so lucky to live near. It’s the perfect place for this family…and this was such a lovely session. We just went for a casual walk in the mountains and chatted about all of the adventures this family has seen–and they have seen some pretty fabulous adventures. It was inspiring:)The mom is a photographer whom I met way back when I took the Jesh workshop. When she booked her session, she told me all about Momenta group with whom I am now going to India:)When this session happened in early September…my trip seemed so far away!!!

I soooooo hope to get out to the mountains this winter…it is on my bucket list to shoot a family on a ski hill…any takers??

I’m doing a little dance of joy cause I have started to blog my September sessions…now that November is nearly here, but you have to take the little victories where you can get them;)

Have a lovely weekend,

Featured

Hi:)

I always feel a wee bit sheepish about sharing these sorts of things, but just in case you missed it and you feel like maybe reading it…I was featured on the NAPCP blog. You can read my interview here.

I wanted to say that the lovely pictures of me and my family are by my beautiful friend, Andrea Hanki from Pink Sugar Photography and Lila Was Here fame. I also want to add that if you are a member of the NAPCP, I believe that they will be posting a little bit extra on the forum–some tips and stuff from me. So, make sure to head over there and participate!

A while ago now, I was also interviewed by the CWP Network. It comes around the 9 minute mark of podcast #8..if you are interested.

Since I tooted my horn a bit, I just want to add that I feel extremely fortunate for how the past year has unfolded for my career. I could not do it without the complete faith and trust of my clients who welcome me into their homes and happily show me their love and their life. So, thank you…

Bikes, Swings and the Summer Sun

The last of my summer sessions…a lovely summer evening with a new ‘short and sweet family’ that started with dancing in their living room and ended with a bike ride to the park. This morning, it is truly starting to feel like winter…which makes me long for the green grass and blue skies of summer when I look at this set of images.

Often, people will ask me what the difference is between a Short and Sweet session and a Signature Session…this was the epitome of a Signature session. Just a couple of hours, hanging out focusing on how much you all love each other while you show me your life. They got a book as well. It should be here any day. When it arrives, I should take some pictures and show you. Or maybe a video…I strongly feel every session like this needs a book:)

Happy Monday everyone:)

Husavik and Akureyri

Images from a span of a couple of days…whale watching in the whale watching capital of the world–Husavik, Iceland. We attempted to do this in Reykjavik, but the weather was not on our side and we are so glad…we had a very successful trip seeing three types of whales. It was almost laughable as when we were leaving the harbour, the hostess reminded us that we weren’t visiting a zoo…that this was the wild and they could not guarantee we would see any whales. Literally a minute after she said that, we saw some harbour porpoises…and, then very shortly after, we saw 5 or 6 humpback whales. The humpbacks actually came right close to the boat which was very exciting. Then, near the end of the trip, we saw some minke whales–which was the kind of whale we had tasted in Reykjavik so this thrilled the kids to no end. I don’t think that images can even come close to capturing the magic of the experience…it was so still and quiet out there on the ocean. And, so frickin’ cold…seriously…but there was hot chocolate and cinnamon buns for everyone to enjoy.

Akureyri is the major city in the north of Iceland. We sadly did not have very much time to spend there as–even though we booked our hostels in April and were there in early July–we could not get a room in a hostel. So, we spent the day there poking around shops and visiting landmarks. The truth is, I felt kind of unsettled in a city and longed to get back out to the countryside….it calls to you while you are there–nature. Truly, it does. It calls to me still…I am longing to go back. I can see myself going back there with Jack when he is a young adult. I think he will want to revisit it.

You must be wondering if I am nearly done with our trip…I am. Just a couple of days left to show you, but never fear–I am off to India in January…and, I am planning a ‘wondering’ trip with the kids in April. Just to explore. I do not know where:)Just them and me…so, I will be boring you with more family travel images soon.

Home on the Range

I visited this wee little man out at his ‘home on the range’:)He showed me his horsey(used to be his daddy’s) and his seeder(I thought they meant a tree–like a ‘cedar’…I’m such a city girl). And, I was very brave when their dog started chasing a mouse at my feet. Seriously. It wasn’t embarrassing at all…cause I TOTALLY did not scream like a 4 year old girl…no matter what anyone tells you.

The coat he is wearing in the ‘whatchyoutalkingaboutDana’ image was handmade by his mamma. Seriously the cutest coat ever…and, wait until you see his hat, but that will have to wait for another day:)

Just a wee sneak peek for my new friends…
